the cutting garden

Using as many British flowers as possible is very important to me. I decided to diversify and develop my little corner of Nottinghamshire into a cutting garden so that I could have access to a broader range of flowers and also provide a connection between the flowers used and the land which they come from. This results in fresh, seasonal, scented and natural flowers, and being able to create a bridal bouquet which includes some home-grown flowers straight from the garden makes it even more special.

I love the look of overgrown, rambling English gardens with towers of tumbling sweet peas, cow parsley, cornflowers, poppies, dahlias, foxgloves and ferns and my floral designs have a very natural garden-gathered feel which are inspired by the Nottinghamshire countryside all around me.

I enjoy growing flowers from seed in my greenhouse, which means I can take advantage of the new varieties which are cultivated each year and see the process through from beginning to end: from seed to bouquet.

I am committed to thinking creatively and sustainably about the way in which I grow, source and arrange flowers. I try to grow flowers as much as possible without chemicals or pesticides; I design flowers as much as I can without the use of floral foam; I make every effort to source local, organic materials and compost all of my green waste.
